Role Purpose Statement

The Learning and Development Manager is responsible for managing and executing the facility training program. This role ensures employees receive consistent, accurate, and timely training related to job responsibilities, company procedures, operational requirements, and compliance expectations.

 

The Learning and Development Manager will create and maintain training plans, develop training materials, coordinate and facilitate training, and maintain accurate training records and compliance reporting.

 

Schedule/Shift Availability

This is a full time exempt position.

• Standard schedule will primarily be during daytime business hours.

• Flexibility is required to support training across all shifts within a 24 hour operation.

• Occasional early morning, evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday training may be required based on operational needs.

Main Accountabilities

Responsibilities and Duties

Training Program Management

• Manage the facility training program and establish consistent training processes across departments.

• Partner with department leaders to identify training needs based on job responsibilities, procedures, process changes, and compliance requirements.

• Create and maintain department specific training plans and learning paths.

• Coordinate training schedules across multiple shifts while supporting operational needs.

Training Content and Delivery

• Write and develop training materials, presentations, facilitator guides, job aids, checklists, and knowledge checks.

• Partner with subject matter experts to ensure training content accurately reflects current procedures and requirements.

• Facilitate classroom, group, one on one, and hands on training using a variety of instructional methods.

• Support designated trainers with training materials, resources, and guidance to ensure consistent delivery.

New Hire and Ongoing Training

• Coordinate required new hire and job specific training and monitor employee progress through initial training.

• Manage recurring and compliance training requirements, including refresher training and retraining when needed.

• Coordinate training following process changes, audit findings, incidents, corrective actions, or identified training gaps.

• Ensure required training is completed before employees perform job responsibilities independently.

Training Systems and Reporting

• Maintain accurate employee training records, training matrices, and department requirements within computerized training systems.

• Monitor completion rates, overdue training, certifications, and recurring requirements.

• Prepare training compliance reports for department and facility leadership.

• Ensure training documentation is accurate, current, and audit ready.

• Maintain an organized training library and ensure outdated materials are removed from use.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Learning and Development, Education, Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field preferred.

• Relevant professional experience in training, learning and development, instructional design, or a related field may be considered in lieu of a degree.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in training, learning and development, instructional design, operations training, or a related field.

• Experience developing and delivering training programs in a fast paced operational environment.

• Experience creating training materials and job specific training plans.

• Experience maintaining computerized training records or Learning Management Systems.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to manage multiple training requirements and deadlines.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience supporting training in a multilingual, multicultural, union, or other diverse operational workforce

• Experience in food production, manufacturing, aviation, hospitality, logistics, or another highly regulated operational environment.

• Experience with Learning Management Systems or computerized training systems.

• Experience developing compliance and regulatory training.

• Knowledge of instructional design and adult learning principles.
