Role Purpose Statement

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing facility maintenance, capital improvement projects, equipment reliability, and regulatory compliance for the assigned Commissary Service Center (CSC). This role leads construction and engineering initiatives, manages vendor relationships, ensures compliance with food safety and workplace regulations, and serves as a technical resource to site leadership. 

 

The Maintenance Manager drives continuous improvement, operational excellence, and employee development while ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant facility operations.

Main Accountabilities

Facility Maintenance & Project Management
•    Lead kitchen design, construction, renovation, and facility improvement projects for the assigned CSC.
•    Manage capital expenditure (CapEx) projects from planning through execution, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to company standards.
•    Review, validate, and prioritize facility, equipment repair, and maintenance capital requests.
•    Coordinate engineering assessments for facility upgrades, emergencies, insurance requirements, and operational needs.
•    Partner with maintenance teams and external vendors to oversee fleet truck maintenance and facility equipment reliability.
•    Serve as the primary technical resource to CSC leadership on maintenance, engineering, and infrastructure-related matters.

Vendor & Regulatory Management
•    Develop and maintain strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, and service providers while ensuring vendor compliance with company standards.
•    Conduct vendor performance reviews and local vendor audits to ensure service quality and cost effectiveness.
•    Manage permitting activities and collaborate closely with the Port of Seattle and other regulatory agencies on facility and construction projects.
•    Ensure full compliance with applicable USDA, FDA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, state, and local regulations.
•    Oversee Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) compliance and proper equipment handling procedures.

Quality, Safety & Compliance
•    Ensure facilities, equipment, and maintenance practices meet food safety, operational, and regulatory requirements.
•    Perform routine and random inspections of products, services, facilities, and maintenance activities to verify adherence to quality standards.
•    Support and promote company programs including Global Quality Standards (GQS), HACCP, Lean Manufacturing, Employee Safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.
•    Implement corrective actions to address safety, quality, and compliance issues.

Leadership & People Management
•    Lead, motivate, coach, and develop maintenance personnel to achieve operational excellence and professional growth.
•    Ensure the department is appropriately organized, staffed, and aligned with business objectives.
•    Participate in the Global Performance System (GPS) process and support employee performance management and career development initiatives.
•    Foster a culture that reflects company values, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
•    Manage departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, and implement corrective actions to address budget variances.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field preferred.
•    5–7 years of experience in maintenance, engineering, facilities management, process improvement, manufacturing, food production, or a related operational environment required.
•    Minimum of 2 years of leadership or people management experience.
•    Experience leading capital projects, construction initiatives, and facility improvements required.
•    Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or demonstrated project management experience strongly preferred.
•    Strong knowledge of facility maintenance programs, engineering principles, and preventive maintenance practices.
•    Thorough understanding of permitting processes and regulatory requirements, including USDA, FDA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, and applicable state and local regulations.
•    Experience managing CapEx projects and vendor relationships.
•    Knowledge of SWPPP requirements and environmental compliance standards.
•    Experience with SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) or related computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.
•    Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
•    Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
•    Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Windows-based applications.
